So, in many ways it’s the opposite of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. If you’ve seen the trailers, you’re aware that this ‘bride on the run’ somehow ends up in Pakistan and a large part of the film deals with how the many men in her life persevere for her safe return. The one with the title role here attempts a long jump to escape her forced shaadi, but lands up in a pickle when she nosedives into the wrong getaway vehicle. While the dulhan in Shuddh Desi Romance was plagued by anxiety, the one in Dolly Ki Doli had ulterior motives and the classic Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin climax had the bride’s father egging her into her running shoes while walking her down the isle. There have been enough films on runaway brides to warrant a genre of its own.
